The Mount is the historic home of the Pulitzer prizewinning and internationally beloved American novelist Edith Wharton, who designed the house and its grounds and wrote that she considered it her first real home. The house is open to the public from May to October, with house and garden tours and music, readings and performances on the terrace. From November to May the grounds remain open, though the buildings are closed except for events. The property became a National Historic Landmark in 1971.
