She Shapes History Exhibition

October 5, 2019 - May 25, 2020

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of American women winning the right to vote with “She Shapes History”! This original exhibition shines a light on exceptional women, their work, and how their accomplishments have changed United States history over the past two centuries. Trace the expectations of “women’s work” in the United States from the early 19th-century homestead to the record number of women holding public office today, and learn about the lives of extraordinary women, including local heroes Elizabeth Freeman and Susan B. Anthony.

In this hands-on exhibition, visitors of all ages are invited to uncover the history of the American voting system and the importance of being involved as a citizen today. From voting and advocacy to marches and protests, discover the techniques used by suffragists and women’s rights activists to sway public opinion and make a difference. Then, make your own voice heard by casting a ballot and participating in a guided gallery program which includes the opportunity to design your own protest sign.

“She Shapes History” is sure to inspire, educate, and entertain the whole family as you uncover untold stories, cast your votes, and learn how you, too, can shape history.
