The village will open a new permanent site-specific sound art installation in a historic silo, created by Grammy-award winning composer Brad Wells, singer and conductor of the ensemble Roomful of Teeth.
Musicians Sam Amidon, Rhiannon Giddens, Eamon O’Leary, and Caroline Shaw will perform the contemporary score a cappella, capturing the ecstatic feel of Shaker worship services.
Silo Songs will offer visitors an immersive musical experience inside one of the museum’s restored silos. The new work is based on Shaker music and history – it reflects themes of celibacy, gender equality and inspired ‘gifts’ Shakers received from the spirit world.
