Dry Brook, Stone Hill, Williamstown

15 x 11 inches

Watercolor on paper

“In August 2022 our area experienced a severe and unprecedented drought. Streams and rivers shrank, pond levels dropped, and many brooks dried up altogether.

This artwork shows the treasure chest that appeared in the dry stream bed of “Second Brook” on Stone Hill – rocks and ferns and branches and occasional tiny pools where frogs sheltered as I painted.

In my decades of visiting Second Brook I have never seen it dry. Fortunately, it is now a bubbling healthy brook once again.”
