The Boston Symphony Orchestra makes its summer home in Lenox from June to August, hosting classical performances indoors and out with international stars — Yo-yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Emanuel Ax and many more. Well-loved music director Andris Nelsons will lead 10 concerts in the 2018 season.
The season launches on July 4 weekend with live concerts by James Taylor, now a longstanding annual tradition that draws thousands. August brings fireworks and a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1816 overture with live cannons, and an annual concert of film scores by John Williams, and The Boston Pops perform throughout the summer.
Around the classical backbone of the summer festival, Tanglewood has also grown a series of blockbuster rock, pop and folk concerts and performances by comedians from David Sedaris to Eddie Izzard.
